The McGregor Winery
Dating back to 1949, when wine farmers in the area decided to erect a cellar for their combined harvest, the award-winning should not be missed by any wine-loving visitor.
MAKE WINE TASTING AN ADVENTURE.
Follow the route - known as "the road to nowhere" - ending in a village forgotten by time. You'll find fynbos feathering the undulating koppies that break the horizon. To the right, the river valley is planted with vineyards, row upon trellised row.
Sheltered by the Langeberg in the north and the Riviersonderend mountains in the south. Gentle mountains with slopes subject to an ever-changing play of sun and shadow in the clear light that caresses...
McGregor's winery dates back to 1949, when wine farmers in the area decided to erect a cellar for their combined harvest. The building, with its classic Cape façade, was completed a year later.
It enters the millennium with extended capacity, high-tech equipment and improved production flow. Selected vineyard blocks are vinified separately, and vineyards have been upgraded with noble cultivars and new clones planted in virgin soil. A red, sandy soil that, combined with the dry climate, provides potential for fine red wines. Quality wines that capture the terroir of a timeless valley.
Winemaker Pieter Carstens worked his first harvest at McGregor in 2000 and has seen the winery through successive extensions, providing the continuity of a man who values the past and believes in expressing the area's unique terroir in quality wines. He has ensured that the Scottish links - the village was named after the Rev. Andrew McGregor, who settled and ministered the Robertson district - are reflected in the elegant McGregor wine label.
